Re: 26th January (Admin & English)
Dear Parents,
Today, I did filing and I-comprehend with them. I have taught them the C-S-I-(PS), annotation and the cub strategy (which is just like the SPG strategy for comprehension). You can find out more after I return the I-comprehend booklet to them.
(1) The C-S-I-(PS) strategy is done as a whole class where we list out the things below in the story or passage.
C- characters
S- setting (time, place, weather)
I- important information
P- problem
S- solution
(2) The annotation is then done by themselves where they try to annotate (make notes) as they read the story or passage. For the first few times, I will guide them but after that, they will do themselves as they need to understand the story or passage themselves.
(3) The cub strategy is similar to the SPG strategy and is also done by themselves.
C: Circle the question word (6 'W' and 1 'H')
U: Underline the tense
B: Bracket the important information
They then try to find the answers in the story or passage and phrase it properly to answer the questions. They then check for spelling, grammar and puntuation.
They will need to do these strategies whenever they do open-ended comprehension.
Sign unit 1 and 2 learning sheets and the EL file content pg (No. 1 and 2). Bring back after CNY holidays.
Admin
1) They can wear their ethnic costumes or red tops with their school shorts (PE or the uniform shorts) tomorrow for CNY celebration.
2) They only need to bring a small bag tomorrow to contain their water bottle, diary and pencil case.
3) Reminder: Early dismissal tomorrow at 10.45am.
4) Parents who are coming for class party can come into the school from 9.45am onwards.

Today, I did some reading practice with the class and they did some peer assessment. This is to help them for their upcoming English Reading AMODE Test.
English Reading AMODE Test on Week 6, Tuesday (7th Feb)
Please sign the reading passage and practise according to the rubric given.
They do not need to memorise the passage.
Reminders:
1) EL spelling 2 tomorrow. Bring EL spelling book tomorrow.
2) Hand in Write Right booklet with Pg 8 to 11 completed.

Today, I did the learning sheet unit 1.10 (open-ended comprehension) with them in class. I taught them some skills of making connections in the passage to better understand the story and also recapped the 'SPG' strategy with them. They can make summary, have opinions or even ask questions by writing them down at the different parts of the passage to help them better comprehend the passage. You can take a look after I have returned the learning sheets to them.
