Re: English & Admin (26th April)
Dear Parents,
Today, I started on unit 12 with the storybook titled 'The Giant's Ice-Cream'. Pls refer to the Grammar & Vocabulary list for Term 2 on what components I will be teaching.
I also recapped with them on the use of some other types of pronouns (mine, his, hers, ours, theirs, yours).
E.g.

Re: English Reading AMODE Test & School Admin (25th April)

Today, I have given them the passage titled, 'The Hungry Giant' for their English Reading AMODE Test. This time, they will be graded with marks. They will be tested on next Wednesday (4th May). Practise using the rubrics behind. They do not need to memorise the passage as they can hold it in their hands.
Reminder:
EL unit 11 spelling this Friday (26/4). It is going to be counted as part of their EL AMODES this term.
School Admin:
Enrichment Fee letter given today. Please go through it. They have to pay $24 more in cash or cheque. Please make cheque payable to 'Catholic High School'. Please submit the money tomorrow.

Re: English (19th April) - Composition Writing
Dear Parents,
Today, I taught them how to write a composition that has four pictures. There are some guided questions and helping words for each picture in the story where they can use them to help them form their story. They do not need to only write the paragraph based on those questions. They can also add in more of their own ideas.
I also told them that they need to use past or past continuous tense for the story unless they are writing a dialogue (speech). For dialogue, they need to use present or present continuous tense.
Most of the time, they have to write a narrative, which is a story. They need to learn to write a paragraph each for the four pictures by following the four points below:
1) Introduction
- Write about the setting which includes the place and time (Set the scene). After that, introduce the character or characters of the story.
2) Development
- Try to develop the story by giving an exciting beginning to make the readers want to find out more on what is going to happen next.
3) Problem
- Write about the problem or the main event of the story (Give a good plot).
4) Solution + Ending (Conclusion)
- Give a solution to the problem or have an ending for the whole story. They can try to use description of feelings. E.g Peter felt sorry for what he had done and promised never to do it again.
I have also taught them the use of 5W and 1H (Who, Where, When, What, Why and How) to help them to think of what they want to write for each paragraph. They do not always have to use all but just some of them. E.g Where is the story taking place? What is going to happen next?
I have demonstrated to them and taught them how to write paragraph 1 and 2 which are for pictures 1 and 2 in Handout 7 of the Write Right Booklet in class. They need to complete the story by writing paragraph 3 and 4 which are for pictures 3 and 4 at home as homework.

English & Earth Week Admin (18th April)
Dear Parents,
I have given them back their listening comprehension AMODE test paper. It is filed in their EL file.
1) Pls sign the EL file content pg and the LC AMODE test paper.
This week is Earth Week.
The pupils are encouraged to do their part for the following activities:
1) Garage Book Fair
- If you have any storybooks
that you do not want and they are in good condition, please bring them down to
the booth manned by our parent volunteers at the canteen during recesses, we
will then be selling them on Fri (22/4) to raise fund for the less fortunate
pupils in the school.
2) BYOCC
- If you bring your own container and cutlery to buy food from the stall-holders this week during recesses, you will also get coupons from the stall-holders.

Dear Parents,
Today, I recapped uncountable and countable nouns with them. I also recapped present continuous tense with them. They then did grammar book Pg 25 and 64 in class.
EL Homework
1) Do the writing (Making your own sandwich) in the blue book.
They can write their own writing for the sandwich-making. They can change the ingredients instead of following exactly what they have done for the class and group writings (E.g. Secondly, spread some jam instead of some butter on both sides of the bread). They do not need to make the sandwich in order to write this writing as they already have this experience. They can always refer to the class and group writings in the yellow writing file for reference.

Dear Parents,
Today, we did MLEA where the whole class made their own sandwiches and they did a class writing and their own group writings after the whole activity. Next week, they will do their individual writing. The idea is to provide them an experience and they then do some writings on the activity.
This MLEA is to teach them what a procedural text is. I taught them that a procedural text contains mostly sequencing words (Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly, Last but not least, Lastly, Next, Then and etc), action words (Put, Slice, Place, Peel, Cut and etc) and connectors (and, but, so, or and etc). They also need to use present tense for this type of text.
Their class writing:
Today, we are going to make our own sandwiches. Firstly, take out two slices of bread. Secondly, spread some butter on one side of each bread. Thirdly, put an egg on it. Last but not least, place a slice of ham on top of the egg. Lastly, cover the ham with the other side of the bread. Finally, the sandwich can be served.
